If you still had doubts about which side of the political spectrum in America — the left or the right — was the most authoritarian, what has been happening to billionaire SpaceX and Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk is instructive.
While he was celebrated on the right for his pledge to return Twitter to a profitable platform that actually encouraged and permitted freedom of speech, it’s been left-wing figures who have been raging at him for daring to embrace a fundamental constitutional guarantee.
And in response, a number of left-wing groups — unable to prevent his purchase of the platform from going through — are now attempting to sabotage it after the fact by denying him revenue.
According to reports, several groups aligned with that destroyer of democracy and societies, George Soros, as well as former Clinton and Obama foundation staffers and even some European leaders, have begun pressuring Twitter advertisers to bail from the platform if Musk makes good on his pledge to curb censorship and encourage more free exchange of ideas, even those that are extremely unpopular (like our founders’ vision of a government for, of, and by the people was to the British crown back in the day).
And now, Musk is calling for an investigation into these groups so he can expose who they are comprised of and what their real motives are: Authoritarian control of narratives, as The Epoch Times reported:
Elon Musk called for an investigation into left-wing organizations that are pressuring companies to boycott Twitter if Musk changes the social media firm’s content moderation policies, coming about a week after it was announced he would purchase the platform.
It comes as about two dozen left-wing groups reportedly sent letters to Coca-Cola, Kraft, and Disney to boycott Twitter after Musk’s purchase. Those groups include Black Lives Matter Network Foundation, NARAL Pro-Choice America, Women’s March, Media Matters for America, and GLAAD.
The group jointly wrote that “as top advertisers on Twitter, your brand risks association with a platform amplifying hate, extremism, health misinformation, and conspiracy theorists,” the letter stated. “Under Musk’s management, Twitter risks becoming a cesspool of misinformation, with your brand attached, polluting our information ecosystem in a time where trust in institutions and news media is already at an all-time low.”
Musk fired back — on Twitter — with this: “Who funds these organizations that want to control your access to information? Let’s investigate … Sunlight is the best disinfectant.”
Last week, the Starlink CEO also noted on the platform that attacks against his character were “coming thick and fast” but mostly “from the left, which is no surprise.”
“However I should be clear that the right will probably be a little unhappy too,” Musk continued. “My goal is to maximize area under the curve of total human happiness, which means the ~80% of people in the middle.”
Musk has made several statements about how he seeks to improve Twitter once the deal is finalized and he gains controlling interests. One change he plans to make is to rid the platform of “bot” accounts — those which are linked to often shady interest groups and foreign intelligence services and are often used to change narratives or spread misinformation and do not belong to a single live person.
He also vowed to make it easier to verify real users and give them the coveted ‘blue checkmark’ to show they are valid.
But most of all, Musk has vowed to make the platform ‘great again’ by getting rid of the blatant censorship of any content that runs afoul of “official” narratives, such as the U.S. and Western government blanket denials during the COVID-19 pandemic that the virus escaped from, or even could have escaped from, a lab in Wuhan, China.
And that’s why the left is attacking Musk the most: Because they use the platform to literally spread misinformation and prevent opponents from challenging their ‘truths.’
